Now if all you want is a definition, then there is no need to read on; however, if you’d like to discover why and how that increased and improved traffic comes to a website through SEO, then stay with us for a few minutes, and we’ll explain it as simply as we can.
Let’s start with search engines and the biggest of them all, Google. While Google does not account for every search that takes place online, they do have around 89% per cent of them, so it is safe to say if you want to rank on a search engine, it is Google that you should focus on.
Whenever someone types in a search to Google’s search box, almost instantly, a page of results appears. To be exact, page 1 will generally display ten results. If you scroll to the bottom of the page, you will see numbers, where you can click through to pages 2 to 10.
One important statistic is the per cent of people who search and click beyond page 1 is a mere 5%. Even if you had a website that was on page 1, websites in the bottom seven positions from #4 to #10 have less than a third of the traffic between them, whereas positions #1, #2 and #3 get to enjoy 33%, 18% and 12 % respectively.
Hopefully, you will have concluded that ranking on Google anywhere other than page 1 will hardly bring you a flood of traffic, and even if you are on page one, you need to be in one of the top 3 positions. If you want your website to be in one of those top 3 positions on Google, then the only way you will get there is through SEO.
It would be great if Google gave us a blueprint for its algorithm and let us know what they look at when assessing a website, how much weight they place upon each specific factor, and how they calculate a ranking. Unfortunately, they haven’t. However, the knowledge does exist due to the sheer volume of testing, data, research and the real-life experience of SEO companies trying to rank websites for their clients.
When we say, it does, not even the biggest SEO agency in the world could say they know what Google’s algorithm is line by line. Still, they and other SEO companies have repeatedly proved that they know what SEO needs to be implemented to improve the ranking of websites.
The implementation of SEO is very much a process rather than a one-off event. It will start with detailed research about a business, its website, its current SEO, and the competitive market in which it exists. This is called an SEO audit, and the information contained in it is used to devise and agree on a strategy for the SEO services the SEO company will provide.
Hundreds of individual SEO actions can take place as part of an SEO plan, and most of them can be grouped under core SEO services. These include keyword research, content creation, backlink building, online reputation management, website optimisation, and conversion optimisation. As these services are implemented, a great deal of testing and reporting takes place, the result of which can be adjustments and tweaks to some of the SEO taking place.
This should alert you that SEO is not static; it is done once, results happen, and then everyone packs up and goes home. For a start, the competition might up their SEO game and now outrank you, or Google may change its algorithm, as they often do, and it hurts your ranking. Besides, any business that wants to prosper must never stop wanting to grow, which means thriving to achieve more traffic through effective SEO.

SEO done correctly is a long-term, ongoing process, and our SEO Perth Specialists’ focus is on long-term accountability.
70% of users click on the results on the first page of a search engine, with over 25% of people clicking the first Google search result.
This means that your website needs to appear on the front page and as high up as possible for keyword phrases that your prospective customers might type into Google when searching for products and/or services such as yours.
Search Engine Optimisation (or SEO) is of great importance for any business website. Without SEO Perth, the chances of your website making it to the front page of Google’s search results will be slim.
Without high rankings, your website traffic will be low.
Without website traffic, your website ‘users’ will be non-existent.
Without ‘website users, ’ your sales/profit from your online business will be slim.
Our SEO audits allow clients to discover those issues by examining both on-page and off-page elements affecting ranking performance. This enables us to deliver the best SEO services, leading to your online success.
An SEO audit can occur whenever a business owner wishes to assess whether their website’s search engine ranking is good or bad.
SEO audits can be quick or in-depth. A quick audit can check easily obtained data such as domain and page authority. These metrics can give a quick view of the domain age and history of websites that link to your website.
It is an SEO strategy that has become more popular in recent years, following the trend of people wanting to search for businesses and services near them. They may search for a product or service and add their city, region, suburb, or even their postal or zip code to the search.
SPE provides local SEO services for businesses that will help you get your business, products, and/or services in front of your local customers.
This means we can apply our Local SEO services to your business whether you have one, two, or ten locations you wish to target. Depending on how and where your local business operates, we can target as precisely as needed, whether that means a city, a specific town, council districts, or local neighbourhoods.
The reason this type of local targeting is so important is two-fold. The first is that, over recent years, Google has increasingly emphasised local search results and businesses. One example is that the top 3 results for a local search can include information about those businesses, such as their opening hours and their location is pinpointed on the Google map that appears just above.
The second important reason for having a highly effective strategy for local SEO is how people search on Google for local services versus when looking for general information. They use broad terms like ‘jazz music’ or ‘dog tricks’ for general searches on a subject. With these, they will see results likely to include websites from anywhere in the world.
If they have a leaking pipe, need an emergency plumber, and live in West Perth, their search term will be’Emergency Plumber West Perth’, or variations of it. This same principle applies to any local area where someone might live, work or be planning to visit, and it is how people will be searching for the type of service or product your business offers.
Hopefully, you now appreciate just how important local SEO is to a business, as it gets them ranking higher in the search engines, which brings more visitors and, ultimately, more customers to their website.
How we help you achieve this is via our Local SEO services, which cover several functions:
Google My Business Optimisation: One of the keystones of local searches on Google and must be done correctly if your business is to appear at the top of search engine results. No local SEO campaign gets off the ground unless the ‘Google My Business’ element is 100%, which we can do for you.
Keyword Research and Targeting: With this, we will identify the terms being searched for when local residents need them and look for the types of products and services you offer. We can target keyword searches From this keyword research by optimising your website using the product and location-specific content and pages.
Building Local Citations: This is something that most businesses do poorly, which creates a huge opportunity for you to let a local SEO agency do it right for your business. Local citations allow your business to be found more in online directories and search engines other than Google, resulting in increased traffic to your website.
Online Reputation Management (ORM): A good online reputation is important for any business, but that need is magnified massively for a local business. Whether justified or not, poor reviews and comments have a much higher negative effect on small, local businesses than big companies. That is why Online Reputation Management is a vital part of our Local SEO services, where we build upon and protect your good online reputation and ensure any negative reviews that appear have little or no impact.
Content Creation and Optimisation: When visitors come to your website, they must find content that is high-quality, informative, and relevant to what they are looking for. That content should also seek to encourage potential customers to become buyers, so an element of copywriting needs to be employed when producing it. Our writers and copywriters are skilled in producing the content that local customers want and the following sales conversion.
If you have a local business and want to learn more about how our local SEO services can help improve your search engine rankings, please get in touch with us.
We analyse your website metrics, current rankings, and analytics and review your website content, hierarchical structure and URL and written content to see where improvements can be made.
Off-page SEO done well will provide your website with consistent, long-term organic rankings and is paramount to a successful SEO campaign in a competitive industry. This is the main indicator that you’re not just another site in cyber-space.
3 seconds ….. That’s how long it takes for a person to either decide to read the rest of your web page or leave.
Sure, keyword research and SEO analysis will determine your target demographic, but only great, engaging copy will keep them there.
If you are looking for SEO content writing to help your website attain a higher rank – what you are looking for is good quality, naturally written content.
When most businesses think about SEO, they usually think about reaching the top of the Search Engine Results Page (SERPs), but good SEO is not just about reaching the top of the search engine results page; it’s about converting the resultant traffic to your website into actual sales.
SEO Perth Experts understand that reaching the top of the SERPs without making money is worthless. This is why our SEO Perth experts will develop a strategy to ensure you get the best Return On Investment (ROI).
Our in-house experts write content that will make a connection with your reader. This will reduce your bounce rate and lead to higher conversions and sales leads from your website traffic.

For anyone thinking about undertaking SEO for their business website, one of the first questions they’re likely to ask is, ‘What is the process that we will follow?’ We can split the process into 4 distinct stages, as you will see below.
One of the most important elements of our research is keyword analysis. We will do keyword research and access data to give us clear insights into potential keywords you could rank for.
We will evaluate your website and how it measures up to the many SEO ranking factors. This analysis will cover matters such as how effective the content is on your site, the meta tags, your backlink profile, and the structure of your website.
Keyword research is how you can determine the keywords and keyword phrases that your website should aim to rank for in search engines.
To conduct keyword research, you need to be exploring what other websites in your niche are ranking for and which searches relating to your niche are searched for the most. Part of that research will also be to determine which keywords are the easiest and which are the hardest to rank for.
Once you have determined which keywords you will target, you can optimise the content on your website for those keywords accordingly and create a linking plan with the keywords as anchor text, making it more likely that you will appear in the SERPs when someone searches for them.
The strategy will include actions within your website (on-page), and some will be done externally (off-page). Internally, this may be as simple as changing meta descriptions or a more advanced plan relating to the internal linking structure. We will also produce a content creation plan so that the search engines see your website as somewhere they can send visitors looking for quality information.
External planning will relate to identifying high-authority sites to request backlinks.
The work that takes place externally will relate mostly to building authoritative backlinks. Still, it is important to note that getting quality backlinks from relevant, high-authority sites is more effective than simply getting hundreds of backlinks from random websites. In other words, we will focus on a backlinking strategy that Google will recognise as legitimate.
A critical aspect of our service is that every client has their own dedicated project manager. This ensures that throughout our process, you have someone overseeing all the SEO work we do for you and reporting back to you with the progress we are making.
Your project manager also gives you a single point of contact, which is always easier than dealing with 4 or 5 different people; plus, they can ensure each stage of the process, as agreed with you, is being implemented and completed.

To be considered a top actor, several things are considered, such as the number of hit movies versus flops, Oscar wins, and box office successes in the gross takings. In much the same way, domain authority has several factors, including the number of links going to the site, the quality of those links, and the growth in the number of links.
There are many factors that MOZ and Ahrefs use to determine domain authority, and once it has done so, the domain is given a DA or DR score. The score is between 1 and 100, with the highest authority domains scoring between 90 and 100. As your score increases, each increment becomes harder to achieve. For example, moving your DA from 40 to 50 is much easier than moving it from 80 to 90.
“The reasoning here is akin to a professional reference for a job: the more positive references a person has from experts in their field, the more likely you are to hire them, right? So, the more trusted backlinks a website has the higher the authority (trust flow) score”.
We ensure that our clients get the best, most relevant, quality backlinks continuously using the correct methods and anchor text. This includes links from good quality, relevant sources – all based on the latest SEO trends, which will contribute in a positive way to your website’s ranking improvement. Bottom line, we build and sustain your link and citation profile so that you become – and stay – an ‘authority’ in your industry.
As for those who do have internal linking and seem to rank well, you want to assess it, and if it appears to be highly effective, try to emulate their URL structure, anchor texts, and breadcrumbs. As this is a technical factor, nothing can stop you from copying those who have their internal linking well-optimised.
You might be wondering why that would be, and the simple answer is that keywords are the foundation of all efforts to rank highly on search engines, especially Google. Although SEO is a vast subject, if we pare it down to its core basics, it is a relatively simple concept, as we shall explain.
A search engine such as Google is where people search for information and answers on any subject they can imagine. They do so by typing their search, or in some cases, speaking it now that voice search is on the rise. When Google sees that search, it then attempts to provide results that most closely match the search term and the intentions of the person searching.
The results that appear on each page of these results are determined by the algorithms that Google have created. Google has scanned every web page that exists to find signals that are relevant to any specific search. This is achieved thanks to factors like content, metadata, and backlinks, to name but three.
The common thread that runs through everything we have just laid out is keywords. The search terms entered and the results produced are matched up due to the keywords that the websites that appear in the search results have been optimised for, and between the two, it is Google’s algorithms that identify a match.
A simple example is someone searching for an SEO agency in their local area. They may open Google on their browser and type in “SEO agency near me” or “SEO consultants in Perth, WA”, if that is where they live. When entered, Google then checks its database of websites to find which are most relevant and authoritative for those search terms. It instantaneously delivers the results, starting with those on page one that it deems the most appropriate.
What this points to is SEO is effectively a keyword contest. It is a contest in that every website owner who wants their website to rank for keywords relating to their business competes with every other website owner with the same intention. It is not a case of winner take, but certainly, a case of the winner getting the most traffic from search engines.
Now, you can participate in this keyword contest to rank your website in several ways, and some ways are more effective than others. You could target all the short, one and two-word keywords that get the most searches and traffic. However, you will either need to spend a lot of money or a lot of time to see results, given that you are targeting the most competitive and sought-after keywords.
A far better strategy is to target so-called longtail keywords, which often have three, four, five, or more words. They each might only get a fraction of the traffic that many shorttail keywords get, which means they also have far fewer websites competing for them. Here are seven benefits of optimising for longtail keywords in your SEO campaign to further highlight why this strategy is so effective.
Reduced Competition: We have already mentioned this, but it is worth emphasising again. Whilst the bulk of your competition is battling wearily, trying to rank for the small number of high-traffic shorttail keywords, you have open season on the longtail keywords you are targeting and most likely achieving more page-one search rankings than any of them.
Better Conversion Rates: If someone searches for “summer dress”, the results can have websites with every summer dress imaginable. The chances of them having the exact sort of summer dress being sought after are very low. However, if the search is “floral pattern summer dress size 10”, and you have a page optimised for the longtail keyword “floral pattern summer dress size 10”, the chances of a sale increase massively.
Improved User Experience: Google wants every user that searches on it to have the best experience possible when they click through to a website. You can provide that great experience because when someone types in a longtail search, the page they land on has content and information provided by you that matches exactly what they were searching for.
Lower Marketing Costs: An SEO agency is what you will normally need if you want to rank for highly competitive shorttail keywords. Not only will that take time and resources, but it will also cost the necessary fees. If you only target longtail keywords, the cost should be less as the amount of work required to rank for them is also less.
Enhanced Revenue: By targeting and ranking for several longtail keywords, you will have organic traffic coming to your website in greater numbers. By having more traffic, which then becomes leads or prospects, and as they go through your sales funnel, they ultimately become paying customers, which should invariably increase your business’s revenue.
Increased Website Authority: A website with high authority is an asset because Google will rank an authority website higher than others. By ranking for increasing numbers of longtail keywords and providing the user experience that follows, your website’s authority will continually increase in the eyes of both Google and those who find your website via searches.
More Voice Search Traffic: The greater use of mobile and voice-activated applications means increasing numbers of online searches are spoken rather than written. Your targeting of longtail keywords allows you to take advantage of voice search traffic, including ranking for variations of search terms spoken using conversational language or local dialects.

Not all backlinks work like that, though. Many are disguised, and instead of ‘Click here’, a highlighted word may take you to another website when you click. There are also links hidden behind images, banner ads, and social media posts. When it reads a backlink, Google sees a URL, which may be the destination URL. However, it often contains text, a keyword; thus, Google sees that keyword as something your website relates to.
Backlinks – Why do they matter so much?
The question of quantity versus quality of back-links should be relatively easier to answer, as Google has clarified their preference. It, therefore, seems bizarre that some website owners, and even some SEO consultants (who should know better), think creating as many links as possible is the way to do SEO.
No one says you do not try to build as comprehensive backlinks as possible. However, this needs to be done as naturally as possible. Otherwise, Google might flag your linking effort as spam. If you go out and obtain hundreds of backlinks that suddenly appear on Google’s radar immediately, that will look highly suspicious.
Also, if you give no thought to the quality of those links, and the sites you link from are low quality, or worse, spam websites, then Google will consider you guilty by association; in other words, they will class your website as also being low quality and not worthy of being ranked highly in their search results. The difference is that if you are obtaining backlinks from quality websites, each one of those links can have greater power, and influence your ranking, than 10, 20, or even 500 low-quality ones.
It can also occur when the website owner falls foul of a new algorithm update or a change in Google’s ranking policy. An example of this was the Penguin update 2012, when Google started taking a negative view of sites with lots of spammy backlinks. Previously, these links could have helped rankings, but after the Penguin update, websites using these tactics were penalised and significantly dropped down.
Content can also be an issue, so look at your posts and pages, see where you may have, what Google considers thin content, and improve upon it. Also, make sure you have no scraped or duplicate content. Keyword stuffing can also bring about a penalty, so any content with this should be rewritten or removed.
Once you have corrected anything that could have a potential penalty target, you can send Google a ‘Reconsideration Request’. In this, you explain the actions you have taken to put right what was wrong and do so by showing them you have done everything you possibly can to remove, edit or update your website, it is content, and your linking structure. It also helps your case if you can show them you have watched specific Google webmaster videos relating to Google’s SEO guidelines. Of course, SEO Perth Experts can help with any Google penalty recovery. Read more about our Google penalty assessment services
Thankfully, some tools can do this for you too. You almost certainly want to sign up for the Google Search Console, as that lets you analyse exactly what Google is seeing when they crawl your website and, more importantly, what actions you should take if there are any errors or issues they’ve identified.
With most internet users having a heightened awareness of online security and the risks of data breaches, Google decided to give greater prominence to a website with HTTPS instead of one with HTTP. As obtaining HTTPS certification is relatively easy and inexpensive, it is certainly worth doing so, not least because of the SEO implications.
One example is that you could visit their premises to see how it is laid out and how welcoming it is. You could also mystery shop them by sending a friend to experience how your competitor treats their customers and the levels of customer service they offer.
Another analysis might be their finances by checking their publicly published financial details. We mention these because you should not just seek to analyse your competitors on one level, such as SEO, but do so for as many as you can.
As for SEO competitive analysis, it will tell what your competitors are or are not doing to boost their rankings. It can be done because any website online is effectively an open book for SEO. After all, if they were not, Google would not be able to crawl and then assign them a ranking for specific keywords.
