70% of users click on the results on the first page of a search engine, with over 25% of people clicking the first Google search result. This means that your website needs to appear on the front page, and as high up as possible for keyword phrases that your prospective customers might type into Google when searching for products and/or services such as yours.
Search Engine Optimisation (or SEO) is of great importance for any business website. Without SEO Perth, the chances of your website making it to the front page of Google’s search results will be slim. Without high rankings, your website traffic will be low. Without website traffic your website ‘users’ will be non-existent. Without ‘website users’ your sales / profit from your online business will be slim.
The SEO audit will assess how good or how bad a website is optimised. It will include competitor research, crawling and indexing, accessibility, loading latency, link analysis, keyword analysis, content evaluation, site architecture and design review.
Our SEO audits provide clients with the opportunity to find out those issues by examining both on-page and off-page elements that affect ranking performance. This enables us to deliver the best SEO services which will lead to your online success.
An SEO audit can take place at any time a business owner wishes to assess how good, or indeed, how bad, their website is optimised in respect of their search engine ranking.
SEO audits can be quick or indepth. A quick audit can just check easily obtained data such as domain and page authority. These metrics can give a quick view of domain age and history of websites that link to your website.
Local search (or Local SEO) is a strategy for businesses that want to sell their services or products to a local target market. They may target their local suburb (or multiple suburbs) or local region.
It is a SEO strategy that has become more popular in recent years following on from the trend of people wanting to search for businesses and services that are located near to them. They may search for a product or service and add their city, region, suburb or even their postal or zip code to the search.
SPE provides local SEO services for businesses that will help you get your business and products and/or services in front of all your local customers.
This means we can apply our Local SEO services to your business whether you have one, two, or ten locations you wish to target. We can target as precisely as needed, whether that means a city, a specific town, council districts, or local neighbourhoods depending on how and where your local business operates.
The reason this type of local targeting is so important is two-fold. The first is that over recent years Google has placed increasing emphasis on local search results and local businesses. One example of that is the top 3 results for a local search can include information about those businesses, such as their opening hours, and their location is pinpointed on the Google map that appears just above.
The second important reason for having a highly effective strategy for local SEO is the way in which people search on Google for local services versus when they are looking for general information. For general searches on a subject, they tend to use broad terms like ‘jazz music’ or ‘dog tricks’. With these, they will see results that are likely to include websites from anywhere in the world.
If, however, they have a leaking pipe, need an emergency plumber, and live in West Perth, their search term is going to be along the lines of ’Emergency Plumber West Perth’, or variations of it. This same principle applies to any local area where someone might live, work or be planning to visit, and it is how people will be searching for the type of service or product your business offers.
Hopefully, you now have an appreciation of just how important local SEO is to a business, as it is what gets them ranking higher in the search engines, which brings more visitors, and ultimately more customers to their website.
How we help you achieve this is via our Local SEO services which covers several functions:
Google My Business Optimisation: One of the keystones of local searches on Google and must be done correctly if your business is to appear at the top of search engine results. No local SEO campaign gets off the ground unless the ‘Google My Business‘ element of it is 100%, which we can do for you.
Keyword Research and Targeting: With this, we will identify the terms which are being searched for when local residents need, and look for, the types of products and services you offer. From this keyword research, we can then target those keyword searches by optimising your website using product and location-specific content and pages.
Building Local Citations: This is something that most businesses do very poorly, which creates a huge opportunity for you to let a local SEO agency do it right for your business. Local citations allow your business to be found more in online directories and search engines other than Google, with the resulting increase in traffic to your website.
Online Reputation Management (ORM): Having a good online reputation is important for any business, but that need is magnified massively for a local business. Poor reviews and comments, whether justified or not, have a proportionately much higher negative affect on small, local businesses, than on big companies. That is why ORM is a vital part of our Local SEO services where we build upon, and protect, your good online reputation and ensure any negative reviews that appear have little or no impact.
Content Creation and Optimisation: When visitors come to your website it is important that they find content that is high-quality, informative, and relevant to what they were looking for. That content should also seek to encourage potential customers to become buyers, so an element of copy writing needs to be employed when producing it. Our skilled writers and copywriters are skilled in producing the content that local customers want, and the sales conversion that follows from that.
If you have a local business and would like to learn more about how our local SEO services can help improve your search engine rankings, please get in touch.
On-page SEO is the work that we do on your actual website. It starts with a keyword and competitor analysis where we look at all the available keywords in your industry along with their search volume. This tells us the keywords to target that are likely to provide the best return on investment (ROI).
We analyse your website metrics, current rankings and analytics, review your website content, hierarchical structure and URL’s and written content to see where improvements can be made.
Off-page SEO is what happens outside of your website and involves finding you high quality, authoritative and relevant back-links from other websites. Having high quality websites linking to your website can indicate that you are an authority in your industry.
Off-page SEO done well will provide your website with consistent, long term organic rankings and is paramount to a successful SEO campaign in a competitive industry. This is the main indicator that you’re not just another site in cyber-space.

For anyone thinking about undertaking SEO for their business website, one of the first questions they’re likely to ask is, ‘What is the process that we will follow?’ We can split the process into 4 distinct stages, as you will see below.
It is very important for us to fully understand your business. We appreciate that every business is different, and every business owner has their own goals. Once we have discussed your goals, we will analyse where your SEO is at present, uncover what your competitors are doing and look for opportunities for outranking those competitors.
One of the most important elements of our research is keyword analysis. We will do keyword research and access data to give us clear insights into potential keywords you could rank for.
We will evaluate your website and how it measures up to the many SEO ranking factors. This analysis will cover matters such as how effective the content is on your site, the meta tags, your backlink profile and the structure of your website.
Once we have completed all the necessary research and analysis, it will be time for us to put together the overall SEO strategy. This will be split up into specific functions, such as content creation, link building, grading the importance of specific keywords, and from that determining which keywords we are going to try to rank for first.
The strategy will include actions within your website (on-page), and there will be some that are done externally (off-page). Internally, this may be as simple as plans to change meta descriptions, or a more advanced plan relating to the internal linking structure. We will also produce a content creation plan so that your website is seen by the search engines as somewhere they can send visitors who are looking for quality information.
External planning will relate to matters such as identifying high authority sites to request backlinks from.
If we have agreed that your website needs a major overhaul, we will start with that, followed by optimising all your website meta tags, creating new, quality content, building your website’s internal linking structure, optimising keyword density throughout your existing content, and tagging images, to name but a few.
The work that takes place externally will relate mostly to building authoritative backlinks, but it is important to note that getting quality backlinks from relevant, high authority sites is more effective than simply getting hundreds of backlinks from random websites. In other words, we will be focussing on a backlinking strategy that Google will recognise as being legitimate.
SEO is a process of continual improvement where you look for small but consistent, positive progress. By ensuring that we comprehensively monitor, test and adapt what we are doing we can ensure that ultimately, we get the results you are looking for.
One important aspect of our service is that every client has their own dedicated project manager. This ensures that throughout our process, you have someone overseeing all the SEO work we are doing for you and reporting back to you with the progress we are making.
Your project manager also gives you a single point of contact, which is always easier than dealing with 4 or 5 different people, plus they can ensure each stage of the process, as agreed with you, is being implemented and completed.
Keyword research is the means by which you can determine the keywords and keyword phrases that your website should be aiming to rank for in search engines.
To conduct keyword research, you need to be exploring what other websites in your niche are ranking for, and which searches relating to your niche are searched for the most. Part of that research will also be to determine which keywords are the easiest, and which are the hardest to rank for.
Once you have determined which keywords you are going to target you can then optimise the content on your website for those keywords accordingly, and create a linking plan with the keywords as anchor text, making it more likely that you will appear in the SERPs when someone searches for them.
3 seconds ….. That’s how long it takes for a person to either decide to read the rest of your web page, or leave.
Sure, keyword research and SEO analysis will determine your target demographic, but only great, engaging copy will keep them there.
If you are looking for SEO content writing which will help your website attain a higher rank – what you are really looking for is good quality, naturally written content.
When most businesses think about SEO, they usually think about reaching the top of the Search Engine Results Page (SERPs), but good SEO is not just about reaching the top of the search engine results page, it’s about converting the resultant traffic to your website into actual sales.
SEO Perth Experts understand that reaching the top of the SERPs without actually making any money is worthless. This is why our SEO Perth experts will develop a strategy that will ensure that you get the best Return On Investment (ROI).
Our in-house experts write the content that will make a connection with your reader. This will reduce your bounce rate and lead to higher conversions and sales leads from your website traffic.
Domain authority (Moz: DA / Ahrefs: DR) is a measure of a domains ‘strength’ and can contribute to how well a domain is predicted to rank in the search engines. If you’d like a simple analogy, think of domain authority in the same way that actors are regarded.
To be considered a top actor several things are taken into account such as the number of hit movies versus flops, Oscar wins, and box office successes in terms of the gross takings. In much the same way, domain authority has several factors which include the number of links going to the site, the quality of those links, and the growth in the number of links.
There are many factors which MOZ and Ahrefs use to determine domain authority, and once it has done so, the domain is given a DA or DR score. The score is between 1 and 100 with the highest authority domains scoring between 90 and 100. As your score increases, each increment becomes harder to achieve. For example, moving your DA from 40 to 50 is much easier than moving it from 80 to 90.
Link building is one of the most important aspects of building your website authority for Search Engine Optimisation. Since good quality, sustained backlinks are a sign of your website’s credibility, it is one of the most important components of any SEO campaign.
“The reasoning here is akin to a professional reference for a job: the more positive references a person has from experts in their field, the more likely you are to hire them, right? So, the more trusted backlinks a website has, the higher the authority (trust flow) score”.
We ensure that our clients get the best, relevant, quality backlinks on an ongoing basis using the correct methods and anchor text. This includes links from good quality, relevant sources – all based on the latest SEO trends, which will contribute in a positive way to your website’s ranking improvement. Bottom line, we build and sustain your link and citation profile so that you become – and stay – an ‘authority’ in your industry.
According to Quick Sprout, domain trust/authority represents 30% of Google’s ranking algorithm.
A basic definition of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) would be the actions that lead to increased and improved levels of free / organic traffic that a website receives from search engine results. Read more about ‘what is seo‘

This depends on many factors. How old your website is (a brand new website, just launched, will take considerably longer to rank than a website that is 10 years old). The current authority of your website. How many back-links you have already and the quality of those back-links etc SEO Perth Experts will be able to give you a better idea during your free consultation / website audit process.
Backlinks are easiest to understand if you imagine the internet as a giant road network. Within any road network, there are signs which direct to you another destination, which you then follow until you arrive. That same principle applies to backlinks. A basic example is when you are on a website and there was a link which said, ‘Click Here to Visit mywebsite.com’. It is obvious that if you click you will be taken to ‘mywebsite.com’.
Not all backlinks work like that though. Many are disguised and instead of ‘Click here’ there may just be a highlighted word, which when you click it takes you to another website. There are also links hidden behind images, banner ads, and social media posts too. What Google sees when it reads a backlink is the URL, which may simply be the destination URL. However, it often contains text, which is a keyword, and thus Google sees that keyword as something your website relates to.
If you had a business in the dog grooming niche the keyword phrase that you would seek to rank for is obviously dog grooming. The immediate problem with that is that every other business related to dog grooming will have the same plan. As there are only 10 websites that appear on the first page of Google, this means it is going to take a lot of effort to get your website on that page.
Let’s say your dog grooming parlour is in East Perth, and you also offer a mobile service where you groom dogs in their owner’s home. A keyword like ‘mobile dog grooming in East Perth’ may not have as many searches as dog grooming but it will have very little competition. Also, when someone types in a search term like that, they are genuinely looking for that type of service rather than doing general research.
Whilst there is plenty written and said about getting external backlinks, many website owners overlook the benefits of linking within their own website. Here is where you can get a jump on those competitors who have no or little internal linking.
As for those who do have internal linking, and seem to rank well, you want to assess it, and if it appears to be highly effective, try to emulate their URL structure, anchor texts, and breadcrumbs. As this is a technical factor, there is nothing to stop you copying those who have their internal linking well optimised.
You will note that we called it ‘SEO’ competitor analysis because this is not the only competitor analysis that you can undertake. Depending on the type of business you are and which niche you operate in, there are other ways you can analyse your competitors.
One example is that you could visit their premises to see how it is laid out, and how welcoming it is. You could also mystery shop them by sending a friend to experience how your competitor treats their customers and the levels of customer service they offer.
Another analysis might be with regards to their finances by checking their public published financial details. The reason we mention these is that you should not just seek to analyse your competitors on one level, such as SEO, but do so for as many as you can.
As for SEO competitive analysis, it will tell what your competitors are, or are not, doing to boost their rankings. The reason it can be done is that any website online is effectively an open book when it comes to SEO. After all, if they were not, Google would not be able to crawl, and then assign them a ranking for specific keywords.

A Google penalty can occur when Google identifies a website that has done something that it deems to be its webmaster guidelines. This usually means that the website’s ranking drops massively. Often, this will be due to black hat SEO practices.
It can also occur when the website owner falls foul of a new algorithm update or a change in Google’s ranking policy. An example of this was the Penguin update of 2012 when Google started taking a negative view of sites that had lots of spammy back-links. Previously, these links could have helped rankings, but after the Penguin update, websites using these tactics were penalised and dropped down the rankings significantly.
The first thing is not to panic. Many google penalties are temporary and a few simple actions can be enough to reverse them. These actions can include making a list of all your backlinks, analysing them, and removing or disavowing those which you can identify as being poor quality.
Content can also be an issue so look at your posts and pages and see where you may have, what Google consider as, thin content, and improve upon it. Also, make sure you have no scraped or duplicate content. Keyword stuffing is something which can also bring about a penalty so any content which has this should be rewritten or removed.
Once you have corrected anything which could have a potential target for a penalty, you can then send Google a ‘Reconsideration Request’. In this, you explain the actions you have taken to put right what was wrong and do so by showing them you have done everything you possibly can to remove, edit or update your website, its content and your linking structure. It also helps your case if you can show them you have watched specific Google webmaster videos relating to Google’s SEO guidelines. Of course SEO Perth Experts can help with any Google penalty recovery.
We could create an entire website on this question alone, given how many tools there are available to help with Perth SEO. Rather than name specific tools, we will state the main functions you should have them for. One of the most important is going to be a keyword research tool which will help you to identify what keywords you should be targeting. Also, you want to know what your competitors are up to so tools which can crawl their sites, identify their backlinks, and the anchor text they are using will be enormously helpful.
Thankfully, there are tools which can do this for you too. You almost certainly want to sign up for the Google Search Console, as that lets you analyse exactly what Google is seeing when they crawl your website and more importantly what actions you should take if there are any errors or issues they’ve identified.
When you visit a website, if you look at the URL bar, you will normally see either ‘HTTP’ or ‘HTTPS’ at the start of the domain name. These stand for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol, and the ‘S’ stands for Secure. If a website domain has the secure version HTTPS it means that the website owner has acquired a certificate that authenticates the website, and that the privacy and integrity of any data which is exchanged with website should be secure.
With most internet users having a heightened awareness of online security, and the risks of data breaches, Google took the decision to give greater prominence to a website with HTTPS as opposed to one with HTTP. As obtaining HTTPS certification is relatively easy and inexpensive it is certainly worth doing so, not least because of the SEO implications.
To achieve page 1 positioning takes a lot of work, and most of that work is going to involve both on-page optimisation and off-page optimisation. Effective SEO needs time, patience, and most of all, the skills, knowledge, and experience in order to plan, research, implement, and monitor all the elements that make up a successful SEO campaign.
Any SEO campaign that is going to produce results should contain certain key elements. These all fit together like a jigsaw, and just like a jigsaw, if any one piece is missing then the picture is not complete. In other words, if you employ an SEO agency, they should be including all of these in your SEO plan.
Optimising Website Elements: This is normally termed On-page SEO and it involves a variety of tasks that take place on your website. These can be quite technical and if done incorrectly can severely damage not only your website’s chances of ranking, but its basic functionality.
Competitor Analysis: You need to imagine SEO as a competition for search engine rankings and as with most competitive scenarios, the more you know about your opposition the better. This not only highlights their weak points which you can exploit, but also uncovers what they are doing well so that your SEO campaign can model them for the same positive results.
Keyword Research: Keywords are an aspect of SEO that much is written about, and it is where there is also the most amount of confusion. We explain it best by getting clients to imagine every single keyword and keyword phrase, as an individual competition.
The job of SEO is to try to ‘win’ the game of getting a website ranked as highly as possible for each relevant keyword that applies to an individual business. Some of those games or keywords will be harder to win than others, and some will be relatively easy.
Proper keyword research will identify the difficulty of each keyword and therefore enable you to rank relatively quickly for the easier ones and knowing the harder ones will pinpoint how much effort and work is required to rank for those.
Keyword research will also form part of the competitor analysis thereby identifying which keywords they are ranking for. This allows your campaign to know what it needs to beat them, and thus rank higher for each keyword.
Content Optimisation: For any SEO campaign to be successful, content is going to be required. The amount will be dependent on the level of competition you have, and keyword difficulty, but what will never change is that the content needs to be high quality. Most SEO agencies should create this content for you, and then optimise it accordingly for the best traction.
Measurement and Reporting: As with any plan, the actions implemented need to be measured to assess how well they are working, if at all. Thereafter, certain amendments or tweaks to some aspects of the SEO campaign may be needed to improve the overall results. All of this should be reported to you on a regular basis.
The question of quantity versus quality of back-links should be relatively easier to answer, as Google has made it clear what their preference is. It, therefore, seems bizarre that there are still some website owners, and even some SEO consultants (who should know better), that think creating as many links as possible is the way to do SEO.
No one is saying do not try to build as comprehensive an amount of backlinks as you can. However, this needs to be done in as natural a way as possible, otherwise, Google might flag your linking affort as spam. If you simply go out and obtain hundreds of backlinks and they all suddenly show up on Google’s radar at once, that will look highly suspicious.
Also, if you give no thought to the quality of those links, and the sites you link from are low quality, or worse, spam websites, then Google will consider you guilty by association, In other words, they will class your website as also being low quality and not worthy of being ranked highly in their search results. The difference is that if you are obtaining backlinks from quality websites, each one of those links can have greater power, and influence on your ranking, than 10, 20, or even 500 low-quality ones.
One of the first things that needs to be done if you have an existing website is an SEO audit. This will establish how good, or how bad, your current SEO is. Unless you have SEO knowledge of how the search engines rank websites it is best to employ the services of an SEO consultant who will have the tools and the expertise to conduct a comprehensive SEO audit for you. Thereafter they will be able to inform you what actions need to be taken in order to fully optimise your website.
